Athlete Eligibility
To be eligible for selection by a National Paralympic Committee (NPC), athletes must have achieved at least a 60% score at one of the above FEI Para Equestrian Qualifying Competitions in an individual or team event between 1 January 2006 and 30 January 2008.

There are 78 places for para dressage riders to compete in the 2008 Paralymics. The equestrian events will actually take place in Hong Kong between 7th & 12th September 2008.
These qualifying competitions lead to the 2007 BD Winter Para Trial Championships, which takes place at Vale View Equestrian Centre, Leics, on 24-25 March.

There were restricted and open classes and you could compete in the restricted classes without being a British Dressage (BD) member.

Restricted riders
All riders except those who have competed in the KBIS National Championships in the past two years, or have represented Britain at Hartpury or Moorsele international shows in 2006.
These eight competitions led up to a final selection day where the GB selectors chose a squad for the World Para Dressage Championships at Hartpury in July.

To be considered to represent GB, riders had to compete in at least two of the trials and score a minimum of 70% for grades I, II and III and 68% or more for grade IV (see full Selection Policy below). A maximum of 20 riders with the highest percentage scores overall were invited to compete at the final selection trials in May.

Riders were required to achieve the required standard in the OPEN section to be considered for the World Championships.

Qualifying tests were the FEI PE Team Tests for each grade. It was great to see there were 4 qualifiers this year - two of which were in the North!
The final took place at the Blue Waters National Dressage Championships, at Stoneleigh on 14th September 2007. The top 5 percentages from each grade (1-4) qualified the RIDER not the horse for the final (i.e. each rider can only qualify once even if they have 2 horses, but they can choose which horse they ride). There are 20 places in total but only 16 riders actually took part.
The tests ridden at the final were the FEI PE Individual Championship Tests. The results were as follows:

Here are most of the results for the Winter Para Trials series for spring 2006. There were also some qualifiers in 2005 for the Championship at Vale View in March. The riders with the top 15 scores from the qualifiers in each class went through to the championships.

Britain’s 2006 squad for international competitions was chosen at the para dressage selection trials listed below.
The selectors chose a squad of up to six riders of which four made up the British team. The remaining squad members competed alongside the team in the individual competition.
