Paralympic Council of Ireland - 2007 Sports Panels Announced

The Paralympic Council of Ireland (PCI) has announced the official sports panels (squads) for 2007 in the eight sports in which Ireland is targeting qualification slots for the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing.  The eight sports are athletics, boccia, cycling, equestrian, football (7-a-side), sailing, swimming and table tennis.

The Equestrian Panel is as follows:

    • Breda Bernie (Grade 1B)
    • Eilish Byrne (Grade 2)
    • Kathryn Wheelock (Grade 3)
    • James Dwyer (Grade 4)
    • Lisa Landau (Grade 4)
PCI

The purpose of establishing panels is to focus PCI resources on athletes most likely to be competing in Beijing.  These athletes will be invited to participate at PCI preparation events such as training camps and seminars in 2007, including familiarisation camps in China (subject to selection). The first camp is in Limerick in early April and will include training sessions and lectures.

Support from John Whitaker International Ltd

John Whitaker International is probably best known for providing riding wear for showjumpers. However, their quality range of clothing and horse equipment is equally suitable for any competition rider, especially the dressage professional.

JWI

I first became aware of their riding wear when I needed the classic 'green jacket' for representing Ireland at internationals. Since then, I have recently been presented with a lovely riding hat, breeches and a superb green velvet rug, and several other items from the JWI range.

Many thanks to Ginette Brogan of JWI. If you thought John Whitaker International just did clothing for showjumpers - think again!

Yorkshire Riding Centre, BD Affiliated 25th Feb

I entered two elementary classes on Indi at YRC and was pleased to be placed 3rd in both Open sections with 61.6% and 61.9% respectively.

New Horse - More info coming soon!

I have recently been searching for a new horse as we have decided that Winnie has grown a bit too big and strong for me. We placed a 'wanted' advert on www.Horsequest.co.uk and the first person to reply to the ad has agreed to loan her horse to me.

Eliza is working at Medium but still in Elementary points so now I will have two horses I can compete regularly in BD Elementary classes and in para-equestrian competitions. She has a lovely temperament and is very straight and balanced and I can't wait to start competing her asap. Thanks to Laura Brittain for lending her to me.
